Paramedics attacked in ambulance

Cape Town - Two paramedics have been traumatised by an attack on their ambulance during a callout to Masiphumelele township outside Cape Town on Monday night.

The Cape Argus reported that the male and female paramedic responded to a reported drug overdose at about 02:00 on Tuesday morning.
The paramedics were not identified.
While treating the patient in the ambulance, a group of about five men got into the vehicle and sprayed them with pepper spray.
The male paramedic jumped out to get help but was overpowered by the men and assaulted. His cellphone and ambulance key were taken.
EMS spokesperson Keri Davids said these incidents were unfortunately frequent.
She said the paramedics were traumatised and in shock and both were receiving trauma counselling.
