Competencies (Knowledge/Skills):
•Basic knowledge of the topographical layout of the Western Cape.
•Good listening, leadership and supervisory skills.
•Good work organisation and prioritising skills.
•Computer literacy (MS Office).
•Extensive knowledge of GEMC/CAD computer aided dispatching system.
•Ability to communicate effectively in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape.
Duties (Key Result Areas/Outputs):
•Manage caller anxiety and stress and provide life-saving telephonic interventions.
•Accurately record information in order to ensure data integrity and subsequent appropriate management intervention.
•Alert supervisors to recurrent incidents, as well as exceptional incidents of a critical life threatening in nature, particularly in the mass casualty context.
•Implement any instructions as per the identified medical dispatch protocol reference system (MDPRS).
•Mobilise vehicle resources, control the deployment of resources and react to delays in the individual status of the deployed vehicles.
•Manage major incidents according to plan Delta and MIMMS, and mobilise other emergency services, including, Traffic, Fire SAPS and Disaster Management when required.
•Train and supervise Emergency Communications students during their elective.
