Position Summary:

Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University has started with the four-year B(EMC) degree. The Faculty of Health Sciences is in the process of establishing this excellence in Emergency Medical Care (EMC) leadership at the NMMU and seeks to full a position in EMC with an enthusiastic broad-thinking specialist. The recipient of this post will be expected to teach in the undergraduate EMC degree, conduct appropriate research in health care, be supportive towards the development of the new EMC department and solidify relevant interphases between academia, commerce and government services.

Key Performance Areas
The key performance areas for this post include:
To lecture various modules in the EMC Department.
To be the coordinator of a specific year group of students.
To develop undergraduate course material for the B(EMC) degree.
To work practical road shifts with students.
To conduct, publish and promote research in emergency medical care.
To engage in health promotion community projects.
To assist with the presentation of Short Learning Programmes and CPD activities.

Core Competences
Possess expert knowledge of the theory and practice of emergency medical care
Experience in facilitating learning at undergraduate level
Excellent teaching skills
Research experience
Regular participation in sport
Code 8 driver’s license and PDP


Requirements:
Proven expertise in emergency medical care. Experience of the Provincial EMS systems will be an advantage
Registered with the HPCSA as an Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP)
Appropriate Masters Qualification in the field of Emergency Medicine (or be in progress), will be an advantage
At minimum 5 years of operational / clinical and/or teaching experience as an ECP
Physical fitness and swimming proficiency levels as expected for engaging in medical rescue activities
Completion of any formal educational qualification or any of the short courses in facilitation, assessors or moderators, will be an advantage
Candidates will be required to deliver a 15 min lesson presentation on a given topic, if selected for an interview
