Occupational Health & Hygiene Coordinator - Kusile Project
Limited Duration Contract

Suitably qualified candidates are invited to apply for the position of Occupational Health & Hygiene Coordinator for the Kusile Project reporting to the Lead HSE Coordinator. The project entails the building of 6 x 780 MW Coal Fired Super Critical Boiler for the coal fired Kusile Power Station to be erected at the Kusile Site at Witbank, Mpumalanga , South Africa.
Preference will be given to suitably qualified EE candidates
The purpose of the role is to implement and maintain an approved Occupational Hygiene/Health programme in accordance with Legislative, Client and Murray & Roberts Projects and other requirements.


The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

Examine measure, monitor, and sample, analyse or otherwise determine the acceptability of the work place with respect to the requirements or regulatory authorities related to i.e. dust, fumes, illumination, noise, thermal stresses etc.
Verify that all hazardous chemical substances are identified according to the regulations and that all the identified substances have been classified accordingly and maintain and updated MSDS file.
Report and investigate Occupational Hygiene/Health related incidents and ensure close out
Identify the source and make recommendations on improvements or preventative measures in order to prevent similar recurrences.
Conduct job observation and analysis
Provide an advisory service on Occupational Hygiene/Health to Management
Develop a calibration program for the measuring and testing of equipment
Develop an electronic documentation system relative to Occupational Hygiene/Health monitoring i.e. registers statistical data , monitoring records and calibration records
Prepare and conduct Occupational Hygiene training (including noise, dust, heat stress, illumination, ventilation, ergonomics, hazardous chemical substances, risk assessment and the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment.
Co-ordinate the Occupational Hygiene/Health program
Assist with budget i.e. identifies annual needs and associated costs.
Compile legally accepted reports which contain measurements, graphics, sketches recommendations and control measures
Miscellaneous Health, Safety & Environmental activities: Support Health, Safety & Environment to ensure successful implementation and maintenance of the Integrated HSE Management System.

Occupational Hygiene/Health awareness and initiatives
Monthly Reports
Liaison with relevant service providers
LWCA and FEM claims and processing of relevant documents
Management of IOD cases
Maintaining medical data base
Monitoring of employees with chronic illnesses
Adhere to legal compliance


Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

Minimum 5-7 years Occupational Health and Hygiene experience in an Construction environment.
Analytical Occupational Hygiene monitoring
Occupational hygiene stress monitoring.
Applied ergonomics for Safety and Health.
Construction environment

Suitable candidates must possess a combination of the following minimum qualifications and skills:

Grade 12
3 years Occupational Hygiene/Health Management Qualification
HIRA certificate
First Aid Level 3
Paramedic Qualification would be advantageous
AIA would be advantageous
Professional registration with an accredited body e.g. SAIOH
