Basic Function:
- Provides first aid treatment to employees on assigned
drilling rig. Gives, or assists in giving emergency treatment to rig
based employees prior to evacuation for further treatment. Operates VHF
radio equipment on board the rig to provide communication between the
rig, head office and/or other Company locations and supply ports when
assigned to offshore rigs. Provides general administrative assistance to
rig personnel. Includes receiving, sorting, distributing and
dispatching incoming and outgoing mail, typing simple reports and
correspondence, operating telex, facsimile and photocopying machines as
required.
Work Performed:
- Provides general first aid and nursing care to rig based
employees. This includes dealing with cuts and abrasions, suturing
wounds, making and changing dressings and giving tetanus injections.
Maintains a stock of first aid and medical supplies such as pills,
bandages, and chloroform, and initiates necessary requisition orders to
replenish such stock.
- Provides primary emergency treatment to patient prior to
their evacuation to town. Includes examining patients by taking
temperature and blood pressure readings and may diagnose their ailment,
preparing a preliminary medical report covering symptoms, accident
details and treatment given as applicable. Updates medical log book for
rig personnel.
- Accompanies patients evacuated to town in case of serious
illness or bad injury and ensures that they are received by an ambulance
and seen by a specialist. Coordinates the making of appointments for
field based employees to undergo medical examinations or specialist
treatment in town.
- Operates VHF radio communications and telephone equipment
to send or receive a variety of messages between rigs and other
locations as required. Relays messages to departments and individuals
concerned and notes time and date of communication. Keeps a daily log of
all communications received and transmissions made
- Provides general administrative assistance to Toolpusher
on all matters related to rig personnel. Includes maintaining personnel
files for employees, preparing monthly time sheets and overtime reports,
preparing work and vacation rosters and processing related forms to
Human Resources section. Updates records of employees for leave taken,
promotion or grade changes, merit and performance reviews and adjusts
work or vacation roster accordingly. Liaises with Head Office on
training course attendance of rig staff, and maintains related records.
Deals with any incoming inquiries from Human Resources related to rig
employees and discusses with the Toolpusher.
- Liaises with catering contractor’s representative on the
provision of food and accommodation services on assigned rig. Includes
inspecting food preparation and accommodation areas to ensure
conformance to established hygiene standards, advising supervisor of any
deviation/problems with quality, quantity and service of food
cleanliness of accommodation, keeping records of contractor’s personnel
health certificates and checking food stuff condition validity.
Coordinates with camp boss on room assignment to visitors and logs
personnel movement in and out of the assigned rig. Initiates invoices
for third party personnel using Company mess facilities.
- Ensures at all times the general cleanliness and hygiene
of rig clinic by giving direction and instructions to contract cleaners
as required
- Keeps all radio communications equipment in a clean and
good working condition. Reports abnormal operating conditions for the
arrangement of maintenance, improvement or replacement as necessary
- Receives, sorts, distributes and dispatches incoming and outgoing Company and personal mail to and from assigned rig
- Operates telex and facsimile machines to send and receive messages and correspondence to and from various destinations.
- Operates an English typewriter and/or word processing machine/PC to type simple reports, requisitions, and correspondence
- Carries out other similar or related duties such as
maintaining medical and safety records, ensuring adequate stocks of
medical and safety supplies, equipment and instruments at all times,
dealing with emergencies with regards to radio communications as
required, briefing new hands and visitors on rig safety regulations and
procedures, operating photocopying machine and ensuring adequate stocks
of printing papers for telex, and facsimile machines
- Performs the duties and responsibilities in the
implementation of the Company’s integrated Health and Safety
Environmental Program
Minimum Requirements:
- Completion of secondary education plus 3 years formal training leading to a Nursing Diploma
- 5 years general medical/radio experience including formal radio operations training
- Computer literacy
- Good knowledge of spoken and written English
