the key medical coordinator of all requests for medical transports and any ongoing medical transports. All Air Ambulance medical transports must be treated as priority cases. The medical transport Doctor is also responsible for supporting the Ambulance
department in coordinating and making medical recommendations for road, helicopter
and 3rd part fixed wing medical transports.
Duties:
Transmission
• The Flight Desk CD on duty must attend daily transmissions in order
to support the planning and progress of medical transports.
• The daily transmission medical tasks for all transports will be the soleResponsibility of the Flight Desk CD.
CALL TAKING
• The Flight Desk CD must take all first calls on conference with the
Shift Supervisor for any potential medical evacuation and collect
logistical medical and collateral histories pertaining to the event as well as advise on logistical and medical options for the request.
• The Flight Desk CD can delegate collection of non urgent medical reports to other staff but remain medically responsible
• The Doctor is responsible for taking and managing Transocean Topside Support cases.
MEDICAL CONTACTS
• The Flight Desk CD on duty must perform all medical contact with Doctors for medical transport cases where medically appropriate.
• The TMO (Treating Medical Officer) and LMO (Local Medical Officer) must be contacted as deemed appropriate by the Medical Transport Doctor.
• Where appropriate receiving physicians must be contacted by the Flight Desk CD.
• Public relations Calls may be requested of the Flight Desk CD and these must be undertaken to ensure good communication with all parties and to promote clear understanding with patients, families, clients etc
MEDICAL EVACUATION REPATRIATION CO-ORDINATION
• Medical evacuations are by their very nature usually urgent. The Flight Desk CD is responsible for:
• Managing Road- and Air Ambulance Transfers as per the Alarm centre Procedure and providing clear recommendations for mode of transport and level of care provided.
• The Flight Desk CD must select and ensure that the appropriate medical team is utilised on all transports and are fully briefed on both client and medical issues and monitor the progress of these transports.
Requirements:
Education
• HPCSA - Independent Practice
• Advanced life courses (ACLS, PALS, ATLS,ANLS)
Experience
• Completed internship coupled with post tertiary experience
• Strong ICU, Emergency and Trauma back ground
• Aviation medicine - advantageous
Skills / Knowledge
• Able to work under pressure and deliver results to deadlines
• Be independent and firm, at same time a team player
• Good interpersonal skills to work in the team - with service-focus mentality
Languages
• Excellent written and spoken English
• European languages would be an advantage
* Must be registered with the HPCSA
