A. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. 15 x 12 hour operational shifts per month
Fixed Wing Flight Doctor
Fixed wing aeromedical transfers on a national and international basis
4 x 24-hour standby shifts per month = (4 shifts)
HEMS Flight Doctor
HEMS primary and inter-hospital transfers
4 x 12-hour day and 4 x 12-hour night shifts = (8 shifts)Call Centre Doctor
3 x 12-hour day shifts = (3 shifts)
2. Call Centre
Aeromedical flight assessment and authorisation
HEMS and Fixed Wing medical assessment and reporting
Medical/Nursing services
Assist nurses with medical assessment of cases
Emergency call taking/Resource management
Assist EOC staff with medical assessment and difficult cases
Provision of emergency medical advice to staff and road operations
Quality assurance
Assist with quality assurance of service provider cases
Assist with Call Centre quality assurance
Case management
Daily meetings with case managers to discuss problem cases
Assist with assessment and advice
Clinical governance
CARS 911
Assist HEMS and Fixed Wing Operations Managers with logistical and clinical input
Scripts
Responsible for the issuing of all scripts on a weekly basis
Rosters
Responsible for the drafting and updating of the roster and communications to relevant parties
Responsible for sourcing of medical crew for extra/open shifts
CME/In-house training
Assist with preparation and presentation of lectures/CMEs for Netcare 911 staff
3. Medical
Meetings
Attend weekly medical division teleconference
Attend bi-weekly medical division meetings
Attend monthly skills lab/medical training day
Attend monthly HEMS, Fixed Wing and Call Centre morbidity and mortality meetings
Training
Participate/facilitate training sessions with medical officers – planning, preparation, coordination and participation.
Recruitment
Assist with recruitment of part-time and full-time doctors for Aeromedical/Special Projects/Events
4. Aeromedical
Overtime
HEMS and Fixed Wing shifts (Optional)
Commercial repatriations (Optional)
5. Road Operations
Operational Road Doctor (Optional)
Foxtrot response vehicle with 75% availability on a rotational basis
6. Special Projects
Deploy to remote site operation on a rotational/temporary basis (Optional)
Involvement in special projects on national and international basis with regard to training, quality assurance, standard operating procedures and online medical advice.
7. School of Emergency and Critical Care (SECC)
Training and education of pre-hospital emergency care providers and postgraduate hospital staff at the Netcare 911 SECC
Presentation of BLS, ACLS and PALS courses (Optional)
Lecturing and examination of CCA and AEA students (Optional)
8. Events
Medical standby at events (Optional)
9. Funders, marketing and media
Marketing, media, presentations and other value-added services (Optional)
10. Other
Emergency unit shifts when available in order to enhance and maintain clinical skills (Optional)
B. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Registered as a medical practitioner with the HPCSA
Minimum two years postgraduate experience in emergency medicine
Experience in pre–hospital emergency care
Essential: Certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, ANLS
Essential: Aviation Health Care Provider
Essential: Operational experience in Fixed Wing air ambulance evacuations and HEMS
Experience in commercial flight repatriation
Experience in lecturing and delivering presentations

Excellent interpersonal and client liaison skills
