CLINICAL SKILLS CENTRE Department of Medicine Faculty of Health Sciences
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for appointment to a full-time, 3-Year contract position commencing 1 December 2014 (or as soon as possible thereafter).
The Clinical Skills Centre within the Department of Medicine, University of Cape Town provides a training
programme of excellence enabling health professionals, whether qualified or in training, to learn and perfect clinical skills appropriate to the health care needs of Africa. It also enables students to learn the skills necessary for safe and efficient clinical practice. The successful candidate will provide instruction in clinical skills for undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as assist with the development and provision of clinical skills training programmes for the UCT Clinical Skills
Centre.
Requirements:
A professional qualification in Emergency Care (Minimum National Diploma or B.Tech) Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) An interest and experience in teaching and training health professionals Computer literacy, particularly with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email and Internet
At least 2 to 4 years’ clinical or professional experience At least 2 to 4 years’ experience in teaching and training health professionals Excellent interpersonal skills
Recommended:
Additional qualifications in health profession training or education will be advantageous Experience in working in a critical care environment
Experience in educational assessment and research
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Work in a team of educators in a simulation laboratory, teaching and assessing clinical skills and developing scenario training for undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Faculty of Health Sciences
Assist in the development and provision of postgraduate extension courses in clinical skills for qualified
health professionals Participate in educational research and scholarly activities
