Medevac Coordinator/Nurse
Introduction
The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria is seeking individuals for two positions of Medevac Coordinator/Nurse in the Regional Medical Office ALL ORDINARILY RESIDENT APPLICANTS WHO ARE NOT SOUTH AFRICAN CITIZENS MUST HAVE THE REQUIRED WORK AND/OR PERMANENT RESIDENCY PERMITS TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION.
Description
Basic Function and Major Duties of the Position:
This position performs medical evacuation nursing coordination for patients from other posts in Africa and hospital liaison for medevaced patients and those posted in South Africa. This position will provide the full range of professional nursing services to American direct hire employees and their family members, and occupational health services to LE staff employees. The incumbent will participate in the medical on-call duty schedule. The incumbent must maintain medical confidentiality.
Basic Salary: R250,563 - R350,828 per annum
Cash Benefits: R60,940 - R69,296 per annum
Non-cash benefits include medical, pension and others where applicable

Qualifications Required:

Items 1- 5 are ALL REQUIRED
1. Education:
- Completion of secondary school (Grade 12) is required.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing or graduate of a professional nursing school is required.
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license from the U.S., Puerto Rico, Western Europe or South African equivalent is required.
- Current CPR certification is required. The CPR certification must be maintained throughout employment.
2. Work Experience:
- Five years post-qualification work experience as a professional nurse is required.
- Four years in clinical specialties relevant to that of a medevac nurse (family, emergency or hospital-based medicine practice) is required.
3. Language:
- English level IV (fluent) reading/writing/speaking is required.
4. Knowledge:
- A sound understanding of the principles of nursing and medicine to the North American/Western Europe standards of care is required.
- Must be knowledgeable on medications and immunizations generally used in American medical practice.
5. Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to develop and maintain working level relationship with hospital and private clinic administrators, and health care providers is required.
- Must have strong interpersonal skills and a service-oriented disposition.
- Must be able to work independently, draft communications to referring embassy health units, and refer patients to the appropriate specialists.
- Must be able to develop strong rapport with evacuated patients and referring embassy RMOs, and FSHPs.
- Must be able to assess problems and develop sound pragmatic solutions.
- Must be able to triage patients.
- Must be able to administer adult and pediatric immunization programs according to current CDC standards.
- Must be able to manage and procure expendable medical supplies and equipment for ambulatory care.
- Must be able to develop and teach medical education training programs for staff and family members.
- Must be competent in the use of an electronic health records system when introduced in 2016.
- Must be willing to participate in medical call duty for approximately one week in five.
